Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Cedar Theory LLC handles information when you use Mahjong Trainer on iPhone, iPad, or an Android device, visit our website, or contact support.
Information handled by the app
Information stored on your device
Mahjong Trainer stores app information locally on your device so your experience can continue between sessions. This may include:
- Your onboarding answers and selected learning path
- Lesson, practice, progress, and streak information
- Preferences such as sound, haptics, and reminder time
- Notes and selections you save in My Card
- A cached subscription status used to present the latest verified access state when the subscription store is temporarily unavailable
Your saved learning history is not uploaded to a Mahjong Trainer account or cloud service. Separate usage events, including the onboarding options you pick, go to our analytics provider as described below.
Notifications
If you choose to enable reminders, the app asks for notification permission and schedules notifications locally on your device. You can change this permission in your device settings.
Support communications
If you email, call, or prepare a message through our support page, we handle the contact details and information you choose to provide. This may include your name, reply email, device, app version, subscription question, and message. Do not send full payment card numbers, passwords, or other sensitive information.
If you send lesson feedback from the app, Mahjong Trainer submits the feeling you select, any note you type, the lesson identifier, app version, device platform, locale, and a subscription identifier to our website. We email that information to our support team so we can review the lesson. We do not require an account, and we do not add the written note to product analytics. Do not include payment card numbers, passwords, or other sensitive information in a lesson note.
If you tell us why you are deleting the app, Mahjong Trainer submits the reason you select, any note you type, app version, device platform, locale, and a subscription identifier the same way. We email that information to our support team. Deleting the app does not cancel an active subscription.
Table Read photos and OpenAI
Table Read is optional and asks for your permission before any photo leaves your device. If you allow it, the photo of your tiles is sent through the Mahjong Trainer server to OpenAI, an AI service, which reads the tiles. Only the photo is sent, with no name, account, or device identifier. Neither the app nor our server stores it. OpenAI does not use it to train its models and may keep it for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring. You can turn this off in Profile, Privacy and storage.
Outside services the app uses
- Mixpanel (product analytics). Events about how the app is used, such as the onboarding options you pick, lesson and practice activity including whether an answer was right, paywall and purchase steps, notification opens, and the survey reasons you pick. Mixpanel also receives a device identifier it creates and your approximate city and country, worked out from your IP address. We do not send Mixpanel your name, email, written notes, photos, or tiles.
- Meta (ad measurement). The Meta SDK sends automatically logged events, such as app installs, app opens, and store purchases, with technical device information. On Android, this can include your Android advertising identifier. Meta may combine this with other information it holds, which helps us see whether our ads work. We treat this as tracking. We do not send Meta your onboarding answers, lesson activity, or written notes. See Meta's Privacy Policy.
- Sentry (crash and performance monitoring). Crash reports and a sample of performance data, with technical device and app information, so we can find and fix problems. Screenshots are not attached.
- RevenueCat (subscription management). Purchase and subscription information with an anonymous user identifier, so we can confirm your access.
Information we do not collect
Apart from Table Read photos you choose to send, Mahjong Trainer does not collect precise location, contacts, photos, health data, or browsing history. On iOS, the app does not collect Apple's advertising identifier.
How information is used
On-device information is used to:
- Remember your settings and learning path
- Show lesson and practice progress
- Maintain features such as streaks and My Card
- Schedule reminders you request
- Present subscription access previously verified by Apple or Google Play
We do not sell personal information for money. Some US state laws treat sharing data with an advertising platform as a sale, as sharing, or as targeted advertising, so those laws may apply to the sharing with Meta described above.
Payments and service providers
Purchases and auto-renewable subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit, or by Google through Google Play Billing. The applicable store may process your account, payment information, purchase history, region, storefront, and subscription status under its privacy policy: Apple's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy.
Mahjong Trainer receives store product and transaction information needed to display localized offers, confirm access, restore purchases, and show subscription status. The app does not receive your full payment card details.
If a direct card checkout is offered on our website, Stripe processes the payment. Stripe may handle your name, email, billing address, payment method, transaction details, device information, and fraud-prevention signals under Stripe's Privacy Policy. Cedar Theory LLC may receive contact details, the purchased product, amount, currency, payment status, subscription status, and limited payment-method details such as card brand and last four digits. We do not receive or store your full card number.
Our website may be hosted by a third-party hosting provider. That provider may process standard technical logs, such as IP address, browser type, and request time, according to its own privacy terms. The legal and support pages do not run analytics or set advertising cookies. The sign-up and checkout pages at trainmahjong.com/start do: they use the Meta Pixel, which sets cookies and tells Meta about visits and checkout steps, and Mixpanel, which records anonymous funnel activity. If you subscribe there, we may also send Meta the purchase event, its amount, and a hashed version of your email address to measure our ads.
Retention and deletion
Local app information remains on your device until it is removed by the app, by the operating system, or when you delete the app. Deleting Mahjong Trainer generally removes its local app data. Apple, Google, or Stripe retains transaction records according to the applicable provider's policies. Mixpanel, Meta, Sentry, and RevenueCat keep what they receive under their own terms and the settings we choose.
Because Mahjong Trainer does not maintain user accounts or a server-side profile, we generally do not hold a separate copy of your learning history to delete.
Lesson and deletion feedback emails are kept only as long as needed to review the message, improve the app, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. You can ask us to delete a feedback message by emailing help@trainmahjong.com.
Children's privacy
Mahjong Trainer is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review the concern.
Your choices and rights
You can:
- Decline or disable notifications in your device settings
- Manage or cancel an app-store subscription in your Apple or Google account
- Contact support about a direct web subscription
- Delete local app information by deleting the app
- Stop further events going to Mixpanel, Meta, Sentry, and RevenueCat by deleting the app
- Manage how Meta uses information for ads in your Meta account's ad settings
- Contact us with a privacy question or rights request, including a request to opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising where the law gives you that right
Privacy rights vary by location. We will respond to valid requests as required by applicable law. We may need enough information to understand your request, but we cannot retrieve local-only app data from your device.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, its services, or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the effective date.
