Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Cedar Theory LLC handles information when you use the Mahjong Trainer iOS app, bundle identifier com.cedar.mahjongtrainer, or visit its legal and support website.
Mahjong Trainer is an educational American Mahjong trainer. The app uses Apple services for subscriptions and optional device notifications, and the outside services named in Sharing and tracking.
Learning data stored locally
Mahjong Trainer stores information on your device so it can remember your learning experience between sessions. Depending on the features you use, local information may include:
- Your onboarding answers and selected learning path
- Lesson, practice, progress, XP, and streak information
- Saved card selections, notes, or other study choices
- Preferences such as sound, haptics, appearance, and reminder time
- A cached subscription entitlement used to present recently verified access during a temporary StoreKit interruption
Cedar Theory LLC does not operate a Mahjong Trainer account system or cloud learning-profile service. Your saved learning history is not uploaded to Cedar Theory LLC, and Cedar Theory LLC cannot retrieve it from your device. Separate usage events, including the onboarding options you pick, go to our analytics provider as described in Sharing and tracking.
Apple may provide device backup or synchronization features under your Apple settings and Apple's terms. Cedar Theory LLC does not control Apple's handling of device backups.
Notification permission and reminders
If you choose to enable practice reminders, Mahjong Trainer asks iOS for notification permission. If you grant permission, the app schedules reminders locally on your device at the time you select.
Practice reminders are scheduled on your device. Cedar Theory LLC does not send them from a server and does not receive your reminder time. Analytics may record that a notification was opened and its general category. You can decline permission or change notification access at any time in iOS Settings. Turning notifications off does not affect the app's core learning features.
Push token and Offers and updates
When notifications are allowed, the app also sends our website the push token Apple gives this device, which kind of Apple push service the build uses, and whether you turned on Offers and updates in Profile. They are stored with a hashed subscription identifier, not your name or Apple Account.
Offers and updates is off unless you turn it on. Only while it is on, we may send you one push notification after you turn off your subscription's renewal, inviting you to the cancellation survey described below and its free month. Apple's Push Notification service delivers it. You can turn Offers and updates off at any time in Profile, Preferences, and we will stop sending these messages. Lesson reminders are not affected.
StoreKit purchases and subscription data
Apple processes purchases for these auto-renewable subscription products:
- mahjongtrainer.subscriptions.monthly
- mahjongtrainer.subscriptions.annual
Through StoreKit, Mahjong Trainer requests product information needed to show available plans, including product identifiers, localized names and descriptions, price, currency, billing period, and introductory-offer eligibility reported by Apple. The monthly plan may display a 7-day trial only when Apple confirms eligibility. The annual plan does not display a trial unless Apple reports an available offer.
StoreKit also provides transaction and entitlement information needed to process a purchase, verify premium access, restore purchases, and show subscription status. Depending on what Apple returns, this may include product and transaction identifiers, purchase and expiration dates, verification status, revocation or refund status, ownership type, offer information, and subscription status.
This StoreKit information is processed in the app and may be cached locally to maintain the latest verified access state. RevenueCat, the service that manages our subscriptions, also receives it with an anonymous user identifier. Cedar Theory LLC does not receive your full payment card number, Apple Account password, or the payment credentials Apple uses to bill you. Apple handles your Apple Account, payment, and App Store records under Apple's Privacy Policy.
Table Read photos and OpenAI
Table Read is optional. When you use it, Mahjong Trainer asks for your permission before any photo leaves your device. If you allow it, the photo of your tiles is sent through the Mahjong Trainer server to OpenAI, an AI service, which reads the tiles and returns what it sees.
Only the photo is sent to OpenAI. No name, account, or device identifier goes with it. Our server checks your subscription with an anonymous purchase identifier before it forwards the photo, and does not store the photo. OpenAI does not use photos sent through its API to train its models and may keep them for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring before deleting them. The app does not save the photo.
You can withdraw permission at any time in Profile, Privacy and storage, by turning off AI table reading. Table Read will then ask again before it sends another photo.
Support emails
If you email Cedar Theory LLC for support or a privacy request, Cedar Theory LLC receives your email address, message, and any information you choose to include, such as your name, device model, app version, screenshots, or problem details. This information is used to respond, troubleshoot, fulfill requests, prevent abuse, and maintain an appropriate support record.
Do not send passwords, full payment card numbers, or other sensitive information that is not needed for support. Email is transmitted and stored by the email providers used by you and Cedar Theory LLC under those providers' terms.
The form on the support page prepares a message in your email app. It does not submit the form contents to Cedar Theory LLC through the website; nothing is sent until you review and send the email.
Lesson feedback inside the app works differently. When you tap Share feedback, the app sends the feeling you select, any note you type, the lesson identifier, app version, device platform, locale, and a subscription identifier directly to our website. We then email that information to our support team. The written note is not added to product analytics. You can ask us to delete it by emailing help@trainmahjong.com.
Deletion feedback inside the app is submitted the same way. When you tap Send feedback, the app sends the reason you select, any note you type, app version, device platform, locale, and a subscription identifier to our website. We email that information to our support team. Deleting the app does not cancel an active subscription.
Cancellation survey
If you turn off your subscription's renewal, the app may ask why in a short survey. Answering is optional. Apple tells RevenueCat, the service that manages our subscriptions, when renewal is turned off, and RevenueCat tells our server, so we know when to offer the survey.
The survey sends our website the reasons you pick, the answers you type, and, only if you enter them, your first name and email address. It also sends your plan, whether you were in a free trial, the learning path and experience level you chose during onboarding, how the survey was opened, whether a free month was offered or taken, app version, device platform, operating system version, and locale. Your answers are saved as you go, so an unfinished survey is kept too. They are stored with a hashed subscription identifier.
We use the answers to understand why people cancel and to improve Mahjong Trainer. We use your email address only to contact you about what you raised, never for marketing, and we do not share it or sell it. The written answers, name and email are not added to product analytics; analytics receive only which reasons were picked and whether each field was filled in.
The free month offered at the end is an Apple promotional offer. Apple shows its terms and handles the purchase like any other subscription purchase.
Legal website hosting logs
This legal and support website may be hosted by a third-party hosting provider. When you request a page, the hosting provider may automatically process standard technical log information, such as your IP address, browser and device type, requested page, referring page, request date and time, and response or error information.
Hosting logs are used to deliver, secure, operate, and diagnose the website. The legal and support pages do not run analytics or set advertising cookies. The sign-up and checkout pages at trainmahjong.com/start do: they use the Meta Pixel, which sets cookies and tells Meta about visits and checkout steps, and Mixpanel, which records anonymous funnel activity. If you subscribe there, we may also send Meta the purchase event, its amount, and a hashed version of your email address to measure our ads. The hosting provider may retain logs under its own security and retention practices.
Retention and deletion
Local app data
Local learning data remains on your device until you change or remove it in the app, iOS removes it, or you delete Mahjong Trainer. Deleting the app generally deletes its local data. Deleting the app does not cancel an active subscription.
StoreKit records
Locally cached subscription status is removed with other local app data when the app is deleted. Apple retains App Store transaction and Apple Account records according to Apple's policies and legal obligations. Contact Apple to exercise rights concerning information controlled by Apple.
Support correspondence and hosting logs
Cedar Theory LLC may retain support and privacy correspondence, including lesson and deletion feedback submitted from the app, for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, review the message, troubleshoot, document the resolution, prevent abuse, and meet legal or business-record obligations. Cancellation survey answers are kept while they help us improve the app, and you can ask us to delete them at any time. You may request deletion, subject to information Cedar Theory LLC must retain by law or for legitimate legal purposes. Website hosting logs are retained according to the hosting provider's practices and operational needs. Mixpanel, Meta, Sentry, and RevenueCat keep what they receive under their own terms and the settings we choose.
Children's privacy
Mahjong Trainer is not directed to children under 13. The app does not require an account and Cedar Theory LLC does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. A child should not send a support email without a parent or guardian's permission.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has sent personal information to Cedar Theory LLC, contact us. We will review the request and delete the information when required by applicable law.
Your choices and privacy rights
You can:
- Decline, disable, or change notification permission in iOS Settings
- Turn Offers and updates on or off in Profile, Preferences
- Skip the cancellation survey, leave any question blank, and ask us to delete your answers
- Review or clear learning information using available app controls, or delete local app data by deleting the app
- Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple Account settings
- Ask Cedar Theory LLC to access, correct, or delete support correspondence that Cedar Theory LLC holds about you
- Ask questions about Cedar Theory LLC's privacy practices or object to or restrict processing where applicable law provides that right
Privacy rights vary by jurisdiction. Cedar Theory LLC will respond to valid requests as required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right. We may ask for information reasonably needed to understand and verify a request. Because Cedar Theory LLC cannot access local-only learning data or Apple's account records, requests concerning those records must be completed on your device or directed to Apple.
To stop further events going to Mixpanel, Meta, Sentry, and RevenueCat, delete the app. You can manage how Meta uses information for ads in your Meta account's ad settings. If the law where you live lets you opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising, contact us and we will respond as that law requires.
Security
Cedar Theory LLC uses reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the limited information it handles. Local app data benefits from security controls provided by your device and iOS. You are responsible for maintaining device and Apple Account security, including passcodes and account credentials.
No device, email system, hosting service, or method of electronic storage is completely secure. Cedar Theory LLC cannot guarantee absolute security. Please contact us if you believe information sent to Cedar Theory LLC has been compromised.
Changes to this policy
Cedar Theory LLC may update this Privacy Policy when the app, subscriptions, Apple requirements, data practices, or applicable law changes. The revised policy will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Additional notice will be provided when required by law.
